What? WLT is an image, video, & text ‘bookmarking’ site that is wholly dedicated to type-related content. Think of it as a type-centric and visional delicious, if you like. Membership is by invitation only.
Why? Why, what? If you mean, Why is posting to WLT limited to invited members only? Well, simply because it’s the only way to ensure that all posts are in some way type-related. Open it up to all, & I might as well rename it to weloveporn dot something. Where was I? Oh, yes, why? If, on the other hand, you mean why did I create this site? Because it was so much fun to do, because it was a challenge, & because I like type, typography, lettering, signage, & the slices of inspiration nestled in between. And, in the hope that it will inspire you.
Why do you sometimes use an ampersand, sometimes ‘and’? That’s not very consistent, is it? Consistency is overrated, and, well, if Eric Gill can do it ...
How? Navigation: use the left and right cursor keys to move between pages. You can search, you can view posts by a single contributor, and you can filter by tags. Just click a tag below an image. You can also browse the collection with Cooliris.
Who? I had the idea for this site, as a natural extension to ILT. I later invited Kari to collaborate, because I code like a lobotomised monkey. Working with Kari is great. I have an idea for a feature, I tell him about it; he quickly replies with a ‘how about this and why not even that?’; I break it; he fixes it ... repeat n times ... launch.
Of course this site would be nothing without its contributors. You can learn more about them on the awesomely titled contributors page. There’s also a credits page.
When? Time’s a funny thing; ask any physicist/philosopher. So, let’s settle for the eternally transient now.
Will you accept bribes in exchange for membership?
No. And though I appreciate the sentiment in offers of body parts, I have no need for them. I’m good, thanks. Though one of these might do the trick. Also helps if your surname is Hoefler.
Tell me about the futureWe’re working on adding audio, & some very clever filter-by-colour wizardry (try searching for brown, red, white, green, grey, blue, orange, yellow, black or purple), plus several other things we haven’t even thought about yet.
